Study at Qingdao University

Situated at Qingdao, a city in eastern Shandong Province on the east coast of China, Qingdao University carries the history of higher education in this city and is imbued with the distinct spirit of the times.

The history of QU can be traced back to the Qingdao Special High School in 1909. In 1993, it merged with Qingdao Medical College, Shandong Textile Engineering Institute and Qingdao Normal College. Years of continuous development has transformed Qingdao University into a comprehensive university with diverse disciplines and excellent facilities. Qingdao University has been featured in the Shanghai Ranking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), U.S. News , Times Higher Education World University Rankings , QS Asian University Rankings. QU has been ranked among the top 500 universities in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for consecutive years.


The university has 28 colleges and Qingdao Medical College, with 80 undergraduate programs, covering such disciplines as literature, history, science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, law, education and art.  It offers over 11 postdoctoral positions, 20 doctoral programs in a first-level discipline & professional doctoral program. QU offers 39 master’s  programs in a first-level discipline and 31 professional master’s programs.


There are more than 41,000 students, including over 11000 postgraduate students and over 600 international students as well as over 3700 faculty and staff members.

QU values the great contributions made by international students and recognizes the importance of international exchange programs with universities worldwide. International collaboration and exchange have always been a powerful drive for the university’s development, growing at a fast and steady pace over years. QU has established over 200 exchange and cooperation projects with 245 universities and institutions in 40 countries and regions.


QU was approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to admit international students in 1987. In 2004, it was designated an Education Center for Chinese Language and Culture by the State Council. Approved by Office of Chinese Language Council International, QU is also an HSK test center, and international students can apply for Confucius Institute Scholarship, Chinese Government Scholarship and Shandong Government Scholarship. MOE also designates the university as an ‘Exemplary Base for Study in China’.


College of International Education is responsible for the administration of International students' admission, visa, foreign affairs etc. We are also taking the teaching task of the Chinese language, foundation program for degree, bachelor degree program of Chinese Language, as well as a general education for international students.
